The extra star is for the ability to be directly on the beach with perfect views! So worth it. We had great oysters on 1/2 shell and oyster poboy. The staff took a while to warm up and initially was far from helpful. I imagine they have a lot of people who don't really care about them. By the end of lunch she was chatting.

We arrived at 6, was promptly sat, and greeted by our waiter. Very smooth. There were no outside tables available, but the one by the window was just as well. A few pigeons kept flying over and landing near the outside tables, so yeah, I was happy indoors. Back Porch Punch was the right amount of coconut and buzz. The Smoked Tuna Dip was enjoyed by not only the two adults, but by the five and one year old too. The five year old had Fish Toes, which were yummy. The two adults had the Broiled Jubilee: best scallops I've ever had. We finished with a complimentary birthday key lime pie (no singing, you decide if that's good or not). We will be back!!!

Nice view right on the beach. Our Waitress Tina was good. The food was pretty good. I tried a local ale, Grayston. It was good. No complaints. I like beach restaurants and this is a good one.

This place used to be great, it has seemed to decline over the years. So it's getting 3 stars based on my years of vising there. Though this could change to 2 stars soon. The food you get the price you have are whats concerning. Seems more to adopt the Destin motto of if they will pay for it, keep charging more. The fish is ok, I had the grilled flounder sandwich. The service was a bit slow..

The Back Porch has fresh, good tasting seafood in a very casual atmosphere. It is not unusual to have some patrons in bikinis. As you read my review, keep in mind that I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and have fresh seafood on a regular basis. With that being said, in my opinion, their seafood is not any better than other fresh seafood I have had. It all comes down to your perspective. If you get it on a regular basis, this may seem a little average. If you rarely get fresh seafood, this may be absolutely delicious. Therefore, I'll give them four stars. In addition, I think they are expensive for what you get when compared to similar places where I have eaten. Don't be surprised when you are spending $25-$35 per entree. If you are budget conscience and not extremely hungry, you can order an appetizer and split one of the chargrilled entrees. That will save you some money. To put it all in perspective for you, four of us split an appetizer, two different entrees and had three glasses of tea. Before tip, we spent $75. The ambiance is nice. We had a table "inside" overlooking the beach. The views and noise of the crashing waves add to the experience. Tip 1 - They don't take reservations. When you are driving to the restaurant, call ahead and get your name on the list. They allow this if the wait is longer than 30 minutes. Tip 2 - If you get a table on the porch, you may be in the direct sunlight of the setting sun. If you've been in it all day already, this may be a little much if you are fighting a sunburn. Tip 3 - Split entrees if you are budget conscience If you found this review helpful, please let me know. Thanks for reading.

We visited The Back Porch twice while in Destin. The first time, we went just for drinks. A nice way of describing our waiter was "no nonsense". His attitude could just as easily be described as unfriendly. The next day, we went for lunch, and the experience more than made up for it. Our crab claws, gumbo, and entrees were delicious. I had an oyster po' boy. I don't normally get po' boys because they seem to always have way too much bread, but this was simply delicious. Our waiter was very friendly, funny, and helpful for making ordering choices. The view of the beach from our table by the window was gorgeous. I could see, after our second visit, why The Back Porch is a beloved favorite among locals and tourists.

Always a staple on our trips. Food is great, fresh fish, large selection. Kids get their meal in a souvenir Frisbee and cocktails come in a souvenir plastic cup. My advice would be to know what you want to order when the server comes. They may not return for awhile. Enjoyed my grouper sandwich very much and the salads are nice. This is very casual and on the beach, so beautiful views. Very sad they got rid of the playground, though. :(

It was hard to find the enterance due to the construction, but I made it in. The hostess seated me, and I waited... and waited... and waited. Fifteen minutes later I flag down an employee who has passed me several times who then advises me that the place had closed "ten minutes ago." He let me know that he had already locked up the cash drawer and would not help me. Nevermind that I was there 5 minutes before that... When I explained that I wished that the hostess or any of the staff who kept walking past me after being seated had told me that he just stared. I'm not the guy that walks in right before a place closes and keeps them from their families. I understand they have lives to get to. But I walked through a construction site under a giant "Yes, We're Open" sign, through doors with no hours posted, was seated by the hostess, all before the time he said they closed. Not professional.

Definite tourist spot! The wait is ridiculous if you don't have a reservation. Fortunately, we found exactly 3 open chairs at the upstairs bar. Man, what a view of the beach/ocean. I can see why ppl wanna eat there (plus it's walking distance from hotels and vacation rentals). The food is typical seafood. I had the bronzed Amberjack sandwich. I guess that's the fish that made this restaurant famous. Drinks at the bar were good and the bartender was very cool. I normally don't get dessert but they had key lime pie which she said they make there. It was delish. I would probably rate this place lower if I had to deal with that ridiculous wait. We were quoted over an hour for 3 ppl. There was even a group there of 19! I guess it's a staple of families that vacation there.

I know that my family and I love The Back Porch! As of last week, we went there 3 out of the 6 nights we stayed in Destin! The service was always bouncy and friendly. A worker named Dave was the best, he suggested great items on the menu! The atmosphere is perfect, as it backs up onto the beach, the big windows facing the ocean are open whenever the weather permits, and the upstairs party area is super spacious and comfortable! While the food is a bit pricer, I believe it is worth it. Especially since the in season fish is freshly caught and fried, or chargrilled, or however you like it! Here's a tip: get the fried mahi-mahi! That's the best!!

This place was just OK... but I'm not much of a seafood person, so take that into account. Great location, right on the beach. Very picturesque. The food was nothing special in my opinion. I had chicken and my husband had the shrimp po' boy. Food was good, not great. Service was SLOW, especially for late on a Sunday evening. Kids were falling asleep at our table waiting for their meals to arrive. Drinks are good but a bit overpriced for what you get.

Excellent dinner at the Back Porch!! I had the crab linguine and my wife had the grilled grouper! Don't miss their warm horseradish dijon mustard sauce!! Our server was fantastic, friendly and very attentive. Would definitely go back again next time we stay at the Henderson Park Inn.

Great location right on the beach Great Happy Hour 3 to 5 Overpriced food First place we went on our trip to Destin, mainly because it is right on the beach and it was getting late. They stay open later than most I think it was atleast 10pm. We had the seafood gumbo which was ok but nothing special. The gumbo came in a distant second to the best we had all week at the Boathouse. Tried two entrees the grouper destin and florentine. Main dishes were just ok nothing great should have been less than $20 each. The sides were corn medley (not worth eating) mashed potatoes( better than most we finished them all) and rice(good enough). Overall I would say it was an average meal at best and over priced. I don't mind paying a little more for a good meal and we had some in Destin but this was not one of them. Stick to happy hour and you will be ok. Oh and $6 oysters are not as great a deal as they seem

Ok nothing to write home about. Service was very good and atmosphere was good too. But I came for the food and it was just ok little disappointed

Absolutely not the place to go for a quality meal. I know it's a touristy beach place, but come on. The meal appeared to have been prepared by prisoners of some sort. We eat with our eyes and I starved. I've had better fish fillet sandwiches at a drive through. WAAAAAAAAY overpriced for the low quality served at this establishment. Not a place I intend to return to and I hope you can take this recommendation. I don't normally slam places, but this place is not good. If you've read any of my other reviews you'll see this is an unusually low rating.

I was not overly impressed. So maybe its the view but it was late when we arrived and dark so I couldn't see the water. Because I love oysters, of course I ordered them however, they were very small and I was rather disappointed. We ordered the fisherman platter and split it. Tuna wasway over cooked. Our waiter not real helpful or prompt. Drinks were good. There are other places in Destin to go that have a great view and great food.

A great location right on the beach. This place is known for their Amberjack fish, which according to the menu is " the fish that made the Back Porch famous." I had lunch there today and enjoyed the great view and ordered that famous Amberjack sandwich. The sandwich was tasty, however the fish was sliced very thin, and I would not say it was famous. If you removed the lettuce, and the slice of an almost ripe tomato, there remained a bun with a slice of fish less than a 1/4 inch thick. This place has a great view, but left me disappointed with the meal.

Exactly what I wanted in Destin - not too touristy, super fresh seafood (we had grilled and fried amberjack, popcorn shrimp) and by the sea. Can't ask for anything else. Will be my default lunch spot in Destin going forward.

This place is great. It's right on the beach and completly open air. I had the mahi mahi grilled with rice. They are known for their fried amberjack sandwich and my husband ordered that. I had a bite and it was very good.
